Why Choose an Interlinked Smoke Detector?

An interlinked smoke detector is an effective way to enhance fire safety in your home. When one detector senses smoke or fire, all connected units alarm simultaneously, allowing you and your family to be quickly alerted to danger, no matter where you are in the house. This is especially important in larger homes or if you have multiple floors.

How Many Smoke Detectors Should I Have in My Home?

It is recommended to have at least one smoke detector on each floor of your home. For optimal safety, you should place a smoke detector in every bedroom, in hallways, and near the kitchen. Having interlinked smoke detectors in each room increases the chances of early detection of fire and smoke, which can save lives. You can read more about smoke detectors and fire safety at the Swedish Fire Protection Association (Brandskyddsföreningen).

How Often Should I Test My Smoke Alarm?

Testing your smoke alarms is an essential part of fire safety and should be done at least once a month. It’s also an excellent opportunity to clean your smoke alarm, even though it might not be the first thing that comes to mind when cleaning. Regular maintenance and testing of the smoke alarm are crucial to ensure its full functionality.

You can find complete instructions in the user manual.

  • Press the top of the smoke alarm against the mounting plate for 3 seconds until you hear a beep. Alternatively, you can press the test button on the back.
  • To test all interconnected units, continue holding the test button for an additional 3 seconds until all interconnected units sound the alarm.
  • During testing, the tested smoke alarm will emit a continuous beep for 10 seconds. The other interconnected smoke alarms will emit a pulsing sound for approximately 18 seconds.
  • We recommend vacuuming the smoke alarm externally 1–2 times per year to ensure it is free from dust and dirt.
  • Important: The smoke alarm must not be exposed to chemicals or water spray. It should not be painted over or modified in any way.

Where Should I Place My Smoke Alarms?

Place smoke alarms in every room for maximum safety, especially in bedrooms and near the kitchen. If you live in a multi-story home, install a smoke alarm on each floor, particularly in stairways and hallways. Avoid placing them near ventilation openings or humid areas like bathrooms and kitchens.

You can find complete instructions in the user manual.

  • Maximum Protection: Place a smoke alarm in every room, except the kitchen, bathroom, and garage.
  • Optimal Protection: Install a smoke alarm in each bedroom, near the kitchen, and on each floor level in the stairway if you live in a multi-story home.
  • Minimal Protection: Place at least one smoke alarm on each floor, preferably in the hallway between bedrooms and other living areas.

Avoid These Placements:

  • Near ventilation openings or fans.
  • In humid spaces like bathrooms or close to kitchens, where water vapor may cause false alarms.
  • Too close to walls, corners, or ceiling peaks.

Mounting Tips:

  • For ceiling mounting: At least 50 cm from the wall.
  • For sloped ceilings: Mount the smoke alarm at least 1 meter from the peak.
  • If ceiling mounting isn’t possible: Place the smoke alarm on the wall about 15 cm from the ceiling (keep in mind that wall mounting may delay the warning time).
