Why choose an interconnected smoke alarm?
An interconnected smoke alarm is an effective way to enhance fire safety in your home. When one smoke alarm detects smoke or fire, all devices sound the alarm simultaneously, ensuring that you and your family are quickly alerted to the danger, no matter where you are in the house. This is especially important in larger homes or if you have multiple floors.
How many smoke alarms should I have in my home?
It is recommended to have at least one smoke alarm on each floor of your home. For optimal safety, place a smoke alarm in every bedroom, in hallways, and near the kitchen. Having interconnected smoke alarms in every room increases the chances of early detection of fire and smoke, which can save lives. You can read more about smoke alarms and fire safety at the Fire Protection Association.
How often should I test my smoke alarm?
Testing your smoke alarms is an important part of fire safety and should be done at least once a month. It is also a great opportunity to clean your smoke alarm, even though it might not be the first thing you think of when cleaning. Regular maintenance and testing of the smoke alarm are crucial to ensure its full functionality. You can read more about home fire safety at MSB.
Here's how to test and maintain your CAPiDi Smoke Alarm step by step
You can find the full instructions in the user manual.
- Press the top of the smoke alarm against the mounting plate for 3 seconds until you hear a beep. Alternatively, you can press the test button on the back.
- To test all interconnected units, continue holding the test button for another 3 seconds until all interconnected units sound the alarm.
- During testing, the tested smoke alarm will emit a continuous beep for 10 seconds. The other interconnected smoke alarms will emit a pulsing sound for about 18 seconds.
- We recommend vacuuming the exterior of the smoke alarm 1–2 times a year to ensure it is free from dust and debris.
- Important: The smoke alarm must not be exposed to chemicals or water spray. It must not be painted over or modified in any way.
Where should I place my smoke alarms?
Place smoke alarms in every room for maximum safety, especially in bedrooms and near the kitchen. If you live in a multi-story house, place a smoke alarm on each floor, particularly in stairwells and hallways. Avoid placing them near ventilation openings or in humid areas like bathrooms and kitchens.
Here’s how to place your CAPiDi Smoke Alarm:
You can find the full instructions in the user manual.
- Maximum protection: Place a smoke alarm in every room, except kitchens, bathrooms, and garages.
- Optimal protection: Have a smoke alarm in every bedroom, near the kitchen, and on each floor in the stairwell if you live in a multi-story house.
- Minimum protection: Place at least one smoke alarm on each floor, preferably in the hallway between the bedrooms and other living areas.
- Avoid these placements:
- Near ventilation openings or fans.
- In humid areas such as bathrooms or near the kitchen, where steam can cause false alarms.
- Too close to walls, corners, or ceiling peaks.
- Mounting tips:
- For ceiling mounting: At least 50 cm from the wall.
- For sloped ceilings: Mount the smoke alarm at least 1 meter away from the ceiling peak.
- If ceiling mounting is not possible: Place the smoke alarm on the wall about 15 cm from the ceiling (note that wall mounting may delay the warning time).

Benefits of interconnected smoke alarms
Imagine being alerted in the living room if a fire starts in the laundry room, or hearing the alarm in the bedroom if something happens in the children’s room. This interconnected system significantly increases the chances of saving lives in the event of a fire. Our wireless smoke alarms are equipped with an optical smoke chamber that effectively and reliably detects smoke. They are wirelessly interconnected and can easily be integrated into a mesh network, allowing an unlimited number of devices to work together to maximize the safety of your home.
Key features of our wireless smoke alarms
Our wireless smoke alarms require no battery replacement as they are equipped with a built-in lithium battery that lasts for 10 years, eliminating the need for constant battery changes and ensuring long-lasting protection. After 10 years, an optical smoke alarm should be replaced because its ability to detect smoke decreases over time, guaranteeing that your smoke alarm is always fully functional when you need it most.
The wireless smoke alarms can easily be interconnected to create a comprehensive safety network in your home. This means that when one smoke alarm sounds, they all do, providing a fast and clear warning no matter where you are in the house. The mesh network is expandable and can handle an unlimited number of devices, but to optimize battery life, we recommend not exceeding 12 devices in the network. With an optical smoke alarm, the smoke detector is both reliable and efficient, allowing it to quickly detect smoke and alert you if a fire occurs. With a range of 200 meters, our smoke alarms ensure extensive coverage throughout your home, meaning you can always be sure of timely alerts.
Our wireless smoke alarms are equipped with a unique energy-saving chip that maximizes battery life, ensuring your smoke alarms are always ready to protect you. Despite their high functionality, they have low radiation and are safe for the home environment, meaning they do not negatively affect your health. To ensure reliable operation, our smoke alarms use an interference-free frequency, meaning they are not affected by other electronic devices in your home. Additionally, we offer a five-year warranty on our smoke alarms, giving you peace of mind that you have invested in a high-quality product.
